Before going to see how to install an application on a simulator, let’s see how to launch simulator using Xcode. Launch the Xcode on your machine, and click on Xcode menu option from the header. Now click on ‘Open Developer Tool’ from the list of options displayed and choose ‘iOS Simulator’. Now a device appears on your screen of default type that is set with a different header that relates to it. You can also change its type i.e., different versions of iPhone or different kinds of iOS devices, by clicking on the Hardware menu and choose Device option. By clicking on Device option, choose your desired type and launch it. You can also rotate it left or right, you can lock the screen, navigate to home screen and can also zoom-in and zoom out the view along with changing the dimensions of the device. You can even take a screenshot of the current screen. Most of the features that can be observed in a device can be seen on the simulator. This is how you can launch and use simulator on Mac machine.
How to install an application on iOS simulator?
Now, let’s see how to install application on iOS simulator. In order to install an application, you need to copy the .app file of the application to the Applications folder of iOS SDK. To navigate to the Applications folder, first of all launch Finder on your machine, and click on ‘File’ menu. From the File menu, click on ‘New Finder Window’ and choose your respective user domain folder. From the respective user drive, click on Library folder which looks like a hidden folder and choose Application Support. From the Application Support window, choose iPhone Simulator followed by its version that is available on your machine and then choose Applications folder.
In short, for example navigate to the path as following “Library->Application Support->iPhone Simulator->7.0->Applications->” and paste your application folder here. If you have the .app file of the application that is to be installed, place it in a folder and copy it to the Applications folder, or else get the .ipa file of the application and right click on it. Now, choose the Open with option and select Archive Utility, so that a folder gets created with .app file. Finally, copy the application’s folder in the Applications folder and re-launch the iOS simulator to view the application installed on it. This is how you can install an application on iOS simulator.
