We all say iOS, but do you what does it mean by? What is the complete history of Apple iOS? What are the various versions of iOS released so far? Now, let’s answers all these questions.
What is iOS?
iOS is the mobile operating system that was developed by Apple exclusively for its devices. Apple iOS was formerly called an iPhone Operating System but with the release of other Apple products like iPad, iPod Touch etc… it was termed as iOS to match all the Apple products.
History of Apple iOS
Now, let’s have a glance at the history of Apple iOS. iOS is a mobile operating system developed and distributed by Apple Inc. It was released in 2007 for the iPhone and iPod touch and has been extended to support other Apple devices such as iPad and Apple TV.
Initially, the Apple marketing literature did not specify any separate name for the operating system, and they simply called it “iPhone runs OS X”. The operating system was unveiled with the iPhone at the Macworld Conference & Expo on January 9, 2007. It was then later released in the month of June 2007.
Initially, Apple has its own native apps on the iPhone and any third-party applications were not supported in it. Later, Steve Jobs argued that developers could build web applications that “would behave like native apps on the iPhone“. Finally, Apple announced the development of a native Software Development Kit (SDK) and is expected to be delivered “in developers’ hands in the month of February 2008”.
